2024 Quilt Show Category Definitions
FIRST TIME Entry Quilt, 1 or 2-Person: No size restrictions. For the quilter who is for the FIRST TIME EVER putting a quilt in any quilt show. Made by one person. Or made by one person and quilted by another person.
KIT Quilt, 1 or 2-Person: No size restrictions. Any quilt where the fabrics have been preselected by a shop or a designer. Block of the Month quilts fall into this category. Made by one person. Or made by one person and quilted by another person.
ART Quilt, 1 or 2-Person: Any quilt that is made and intended to be used as a picture on a wall. It is an original design of the maker. Fabrics and materials might be used in an artistic or different manner. Made by one person. Or made by one person and quilted by another person.
Quilted CLOTHING or HOME Accessory, 1 or 2-Person: Jackets, vests, table runners. Entry must be a quilted item. Made by one person. Or made by one person and quilted by another person.
SMALL Quilt, 1 or 2-Person: Quilts measuring no more than 120” around. Techniques would be pieced, appliqué, or a mix of the two. Made by one person. Or made by one person and quilted by another person.
MEDIUM Mixed Technique and Appliqué Quilt, 1-Person: Quilts measuring 121” – 280” around. Any method of appliqué or mixed technique made and quilted by one person.
MEDIUM Mixed Technique and Appliqué Quilt, 2-Person: Same as above but quilted by another person. LARGE Mixed Technique and Appliqué Quilt, 1-Person: Quilts measuring 281” or greater around. Any
method of appliqué or mixed technique made and quilted by one person.
LARGE Mixed Technique and Appliqué Quilt, 2-Person: Same as above but quilted by another person.
MEDIUM Pieced Quilt, 1-Person: Quilts 121” – 280” around. A predominantly pieced quilt made by one person.
MEDIUM Pieced Quilt, 2-Person: Same as above but quilted by another person.
LARGE Pieced Quilt, 1-Person: Quilts 281” or greater around. A predominantly pieced quilt made by
one person.
LARGE Pieced Quilt, 2-Person: Same as above but quilted by another person.
MODERN Design Quilt, 1 or 2-Person: Quilts measuring 97” or greater around. A quilt featuring the design aesthetic of modern quilting. Quilts may feature high contrasting colors, minimalism, improvisational piecing, expansive negative space and non-traditional layouts. Made by one person. Or made by one person and quilted by another.
ORIGINAL Design Quilt, 1 or 2-Person: Quilts measuring 200” or greater. A quilt designed by the maker. Or it could be traditional blocks set in a unique manner. Nothing made using a published pattern. Made by one person. Or made by one person and quilted by another person.
Group Quilt: Made by three(3) or more people. No size restriction. This includes block exchanges, round robins. Quilt may be pieced, appliquéd or a combination of both techniques.
Guild Challenge: Any quilt made meeting the criteria set for the Guild Challenge for the year. The Quilt Show Committee members will award a ribbon for the best implementation and execution of the challenge theme.
SPONSOR a Young Quilter: All active Guild members are eligible to sponsor a quilter under the age of 18. This is an opportunity for our Guild to grow by mentoring, encouraging, and supporting young quilters. No design or size restrictions for entries. All quilts must have the three layers. Entries will be showcased at the Quilt Show. Quilts in this category will not exclude the quilter from entering the First-Time Entry category later.
Special Ribbons: Best of Show, Judge’s Choice, Best Hand Quilting, Best Machine Quilting Stationary, Best Machine Quilting Track Mounted, Best use of Color & Design, Best use of Embellishment, Most Whimsical, and Best of Guild Challenge.
